Is there anything missing in your life? Are you in a rut? Bored? Same old, same old? This is where many substance abuse issues arise. Something to fill the void. We try to take the edge off reality, allow something else in, to let us drift, to lighten our load, if just for a while. We try to find happiness in believing the lies handed to us by ourself (we never justify our own behavior do we?), a drug dealer, a bar tender, a video game, various flavors of pornography, and countless other distractions that massage our senses, but go no further. The lie we tell our selves is that these habits go no further, when in fact, they are 'designed' to loosen the foundation we are trying not to damage. All we want is something to distract, allowing temporary escape. Too bad 'they' never mention exactly how those distractions open doors to wide varieties of darkness. Instead of lightening our load, they darken our path. Pick your poison (pun intended). Drugs, alcohol, casual sex, video game escape, gambling, or simply the quest for more money or power, they all darken our path. They blind us to those things that are most important in any life. Enlightenment bringing us closer to God, to our family, and to bettering those lives we touch every day.
